Hello

My inspiration for creating art is all the colors, lines and shapes that make up our universe. Seeing my canvas smeared in all different colors of the rainbow, experimenting with the places colors mix to combine into new and unique colors, taking pieces of each color and layering with different textures - it feels like a celebration of life itself. It is an absolute joy to create. I see beauty in the dance between the lines and the shapes and the colors, the creation of secret areas on the canvas - it feels filled with wonder and mystery. I shy away from trying to create a specific thing - I like the openness of the shapes, the way they almost look like something but seemed to dance away from definition, like the best mysteries in life. I create art simply because I love to wonder and because I must. Art is an expression of my love for the mystery of being alive.

My Story

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and enjoying exploring my backyard and nature from an early age. I have always enjoyed a curiosity and wonder about the world around me, the people and the things, rocks, plants, how we came to be here, how it is that the universe exists! My childhood neighbor had a hillside of raspberry bushes so I have many fond memories of getting lost in time and space between the rows of green leaves and eating my fill of sun warmed berries.

I attended Smith College and received my Bachelors in Fine Arts. I explored many mediums and types of art, but only really took one painting class there. After graduation I moved back home to Seattle and worked various jobs while taking painting lessons from a local painter, Vaho Mushkeli. I met my now husband and ended up moving back to his hometown of Spokane, WA. Together we have four kids whom we homeschool, so it has been challenging during those years to find a lot of time for art (although I did  illustrate a meditative coloring book during that time, because an artist who doesn't art at all does start to get a bit testy.) . The youngest is now a toddler and in the last year I have found more opportunities to paint, so it felt like the right time to put together a website and share my work!

Making art for me is a wonderful process these days - it used to feel like more of a struggle, like I was wanting it to be something other than what it was. I have found a peace and excitement in my process now. It feels like discovery and exploration - playful. It feels more like a dance.

Thanks for visiting my site and please get in touch if you have any questions!
